On the road again

Gill and I spent 2 days in Santander recuperating. It was a welcome break after the hustle and bustle of moving and traveling to get to Spain. Now we are walking once more. We had a full day yesterday that started with a man leaning on a car letting it all hang out saying lookie lookie. Not exacly the most holy or promising start, but after walking a few paces more I turned to Gill and said, "did you see that". We had a number of times through the day where we laughed at the absurdity of it. I still cant believe it happened. I mean the guy was just standing on the side walk on a brisk Saturday morning. I guess the world is full of interesting people. After walking for about 22 kilometers we got to the albergue. We were tired and sore and it was latter than we like to get in. We met the woman with the keys along the way and she said, " you're not going to the albergue are you?" After nodding our assent she proceeded to tell us that there was only one bed left. Desperate for a place to say with images of park benches flashing in my mind I quickly offered to share the bed or sleep on the floor. She was certain that that wouldn't work and told us to wait. After a few worried minutes she came back and told us to go a kilometer down the road. Now we have with us a pretty reliable and recently written book. The thing is there is no albergue listed for another 10 kilometers. There was no way we were going to walk another 10. The whole kilometer I think Gill was worried. I was a little too tired to worry too much. I figured we would be sleeping on the floor somewhere. But when we got to the bar the woman sent us too, the man there carried our bags to a wonderful new albergue across the street. We were two of 5 people and there was heat and a fresh fruit basket on the table. Gill said that this was "the most salvationy moment of the trip so far." I have to say I agree, although there are several other moments that come close.
